 Bulldogs end Cloudland’s run in region

Hampton finally got over the hump with a win over District 1-A champ Cloudland in the Region 1-A semifinals Tuesday night at Chuckey-Doak High School.

Dustin Milhorn and Bobby James took over the game in the second half and scored 18 points apiece to lead the ‘Dogs to a 66-50 win.

Justin Bentley added 13 points for Hampton, who built a large lead down the stretch after a close first half.

Cloudland was led by a 20-point effort from sophomore Logan Morgan and 12 points from senior Brett Stocton.

Hampton will face University High, who rolled past Hancock County 77-49, in the Region 1-A title game Thursday at 7:45 p.m.

Elizabethton falls to Unicoi; Johnson County loses heartbreaker

Elizabethton’s solid postseason run fell short Tuesday at Chuckey-Doak Middle School.

The Cyclones fell 55-37 to District 1-AA champ Unicoi County in the Region 1-AA semi’s.

Elizabethton tied the game early in the second half, but Unicoi pulled ahead down the stretch thanks to the play of Cameron Miller.

Bo Carter and Kyle Wash led the Cyclones with 10 points apiece in the loss.

In the nightcap, Johnson County trailed by 13 points in the second half before making a sizeable run to take a 10-point lead into the final stanza.

The Longhorns couldn’t maintain their edge down the final stretch, allowing Rutledge to reclaim the lead while failing to retake the advantage.

Jesse Poteet (17 points), Devin Shaw (16 points), Austin Phipps (13 points), Austin Paisley (13 points) and Ian Bellamy (11 points) all scored in the double figures for the Horns.
